Foudnation Hosts C.J. Box Author Dinner
On March 27, 2010, the Rapid City Library Foundation featured award-winning mystery author C.J. Box as the speaker at its annual
author dinner. Box
is the author of 11 novels including the Joe Pickett series. He’s won the Edgar Award, Anthony Award, Prix Calibre 38, the Macavity Award, the Gumshoe Award and the Barry Award. Many of his novels have appeared on the New York
Times Best Seller List and are available for check out at the Rapid City Public Library including: Below Zero, Blood Trail, Blue Heaven, Free Fire and Three Weeks to Say Goodbye. C.J.'s latest addition to the Joe Pickett series, "Nowhere to Run," will be available nationwide on April 6, 2010. Read a chapter from this novel and learn more about C.J. at his website.

Foundation Supports Dan O'Brien Event
On May 8, 2009, Dan O’Brien was in Rapid City to promote the kick-off of One Book South Dakota. Dan O’Brien’s 2001 memoir “Buffalo for the Broken Heart” – A tale about restoring native prairie life to his Black Hills ranch – was this year’s choice. Dan, a wildlife biologist and rancher for more than 30 years, has been described by the New York Times as possessing “a keen and poetic eye” and has published a number of other novels set in the Great Plains.
The event began at the Rapid City Public Library with a reception and book signing along with appetizers and drinks. Music for the event was provided by James Van Nuys and Bob Fahey, two accomplished and local, blues guitarists.
