Rapid City Public Library Board approves contract for Pennington County Library Services December 12, 2007 The Rapid City Public Library Board agreed upon a library service contract with the Pennington County Commissioners. The agreement is on the agenda for the County Commissioners meeting for Tuesday, December 18. If approved by the Commissioners the agreement will continue to allow Pennington County residents full access to the services and collections of the Rapid City Public Library. The compromise agreement provides for an increase in funding paid by the County to the Library in 2008 and a formula for future payments beginning in 2009 based on the percentage of library cards held by county residents. According to the agreement, the county will pay $351,750 for services in 2008. This total does not reflect a formula calculation but was a compromise to reach an ongoing formula contract. Beginning in 2009 the County’s contribution for the operational costs is based on the total number of county library card holders at 14.5 percent for ending year 2006. The 2009 funding for this formula is $411,193. The agreement also stipulates that the contract is ongoing with an annual renewal. Contact: Monte Loos, Chairman Rapid City Public Library |
