GET A CLUE @ YOUR LIBRARY! GET A CLUE @ YOUR LIBRARY! is the theme of the Summer Reading Program at the Rapid City Public Library. Whether in the library or on-line, readers can ‘Get a Clue’ about good summer reads. The library staff is ready to assist readers in finding books, DVDs, online resources, and other materials. The Summer Reading Program’s events and activities promote daily reading as a way to help students maintain their reading skills, and encourage children and adults alike to enjoy reading as a summer leisure activity. Mark your calendars and don’t miss these great programs that will be held at the library throughout the summer: START READING June 1st! TEENS - ‘You Never Know What’s Rockin’ @ the Library’ will feature local teen bands on Friday, June 1st from 8-10 p.m. Middle and high school students are invited to come to this all-ages music show in the library. ADULTS - ‘Get a Clue about Scrap Booking’ on Monday, June 4, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Guest presenter Lynn Ormesher from Scrappin’ Ladies II will share scrap booking tips; refreshments will be provided. SUMMER READING KICK OFF - Come and meet Nate the Great (bring your camera), on Tuesday, June 5, from 10:00 - noon. Get a clue about safety from the Rapid City Police Department, have a mystery snack, make a disguise, guess what’s in the mystery bag, and participate other fun activities. ALL AGES ARE WELCOME! FAMILY ADVENTURE – During the month of June, you can Get a Clue about Rapid City’s Parks. Come to the library and pick up a map with clues about Rapid City parks. Find 8 or more parks and receive a family treat; find 16 and register for a drawing to win a “Picnic in the Park”. Get a Clue about Rapid City’s Parks is a partnership with the Rapid City Public Library, Friends of the Parks, and the Rapid City Parks Department. QUICK PICK PICNICS – Join others who love to read, eat a picnic lunch provided by the Friends of the Library, and talk about your favorite books and summer reading picks. From noon to 1:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month (June 20, July 18 and August 15), enjoy lunch while you find out about good reads. Participants can listen to what others are reading, and are encouraged to recommend their own favorite books. In addition to the lunch, great company, and book recommendation, we have door prizes too! This is for readers 18 years and older. MEET THE MYSTERY AUTHORS - Lovey Award Winner and Agatha Award nominees Honora Finkelstein & Susan Smily, co-authors of The Chef Who Died Sautéing, will join us on Sunday, July 22 at 4:30 p.m. to discuss & and sign their books. The two also co-authored “A Killer Cookbook Volume 1: recipes to accompany The Chef Who Died Sautéing” as well as their May 2007 books: “The Lawyer Who Died Trying” and “A Killer Cookbook 2: recipes to accompany The Lawyer Who Died Trying.” CELEBRATION EVENTS FOR ALL AGES Solve the Library Mystery on June 30! Come to the library anytime on June 30, and follow the clues to solve the mystery. This is the first opportunity to turn in your 30-day reading log for a reward. Get A Clue About Magic on July 30! Please register for a magic workshop with Cody Landstrom, from 1:00-1:45 p.m. This workshop for is for kids 4th grade and up. Cody will present a magic show for all ages from 2:00-3:00. You may also turn in your 60-day reading logs for rewards. Get A Clue About Cool! On August 30, join us to celebrate 90 days of reading and the end of summer with cool treats. Turn in your 90-day reading logs for rewards; there will be a drawing for special prizes for the 90-day readers. The last day to turn in reading logs is September 1, 2007. Thanks to a partnership with Rapid Ride, you can also get clued in about rides to the library this summer. Show the bus driver your library card, and ride to and from the library for free.
